Song : Sau Janam; Movie : Whats your raashee? (Hindi-2009)

September 24, 2009

Ok, this should stop all that mega leg pulling that’s happening in my previous post ! Phew !!!

Now that Wanted is declared a hit, I can proudly say that even I was a part of the movies promotion 😀 😀 😀 ! and our Vee did a better job by declaring ‘Salman is the best’ through a post a day before the movies release. Together we are sharing a 0.00005% contribution of Wanteds success and I hope everyones ok with that  😉

And here it is, as promised, a song from Whats your raashee (WYR) that is releasing worldwide this Friday. Though I am promoting a movie again, this time I have no hopes on the movies success since it stars Bore-man Baweja ! I know he is just two films old and perhaps, its too early to write him off ! Whatever ! I really don’t know what Ashutosh and UTV saw in him, probably he offered to act for free 😀 😀 😀

Anyway, the soundtrack of WYR is actually good, it has that charm of the 90’s Hindi film songs that is completely missing these days. Hats off to Sohail Sen for pulling this one, that too,13 different tracks with no remixes. And even Ashutosh needs a word of appreciation for being confident on a music director who was just one film old before sighing for WYR. For people who didn’t know yet, Sohail Sen, son of Sameer Sen (Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen, music directors of movies like Ziddi, Aflatoon), had shared credits with Shibani Kashyap for the movie Sirf (2008).

Sau Janam, is my favourite in the album and I fell in love with the song the moment I heard it. Its sung by Madhushree and my all time favourite, Udit Narayan, along with Sohail Sen who croons only the initial four lines, for which I guess there would be an explanation in the movie. And here, I retained the voice of Madhushree from the original and sang the portions of both Udit and Sohail.

This track is one of my toughest attempts in terms of editing, and for the same reason, even singing was a little difficult trying to get all the echos right in place. I also gave a tough time for my neighbors with all that high pitch singing at 2 and 3 in the morning !! They must be formulating some kind of petition against me, probably to drive me out of the country itself.

Suggestions :

  • Please wait till the entire song streams.
  • Try using a headset/earphone for the best sound clarity.

The V-mphony page on this blog is updated with the song.

First of all the post you linked to me is review and not the one day before promotional post…. 🙂

Second of all Whats Your Rashee ke songs are good. Period. Doesn’t matter who stars in it. Few people whom I recommended this album went on to say… ‘Harman wala picture, arrey yaar gaane kaise acche ho sakte hain’?

Hello, what Harman got to do with the music of the movie. The songs are nice. Ek baar suno toh.

Third of all and last, Isn’t it Hormone Baweja and not Bore-Man Baweja???

    • September 24, 2009 4:05 am

Oops !! changed Oxy boyy !! Thanks for pointing it out !!! 🙂

I know. Songs are good, I have been listening quite a few reviews on the songs based on Hurman and his previous attempts at acting ! 😀 😀

Hormone is ROFL !!!!! poor guy! I wish he doesnt read all this !

Vimmu, what is this? I mean I have no clue about all these songs. Let me hear it and comment. I saw a promo where a squint eyed Priyanka sang ‘su che su che……’.

    • September 24, 2009 5:30 am

Last song I loved was ‘Ajj din chadeya..’ from Love Aaj kal. Nothing after that caught my attention.

      Can you sing that song?

      • September 24, 2009 6:49 pm

Is solilo registering a request ?

        • September 25, 2009 12:20 am

I dont remember liking any song from Love Aaj Kal ! Let me listen to it and check if I can create a karaoke out of it 😀 Thanks for the suggestion ! 😀

            • September 26, 2009 1:47 am

This is the song. I didn’t listen to any Hindi song after this.

  7. September 24, 2009 8:16 am

damn u’re putting up posts faster than i can comment on them!! i think u put this one up so fast so that u can duck the comments of the other one lol… 😀

Together we are sharing a 0.00005% contribution of Wanteds success and I hope everyones ok with that
yea right… as if u wud change ur opinion if someone was NOT ok with it! 😛

heard this song.. good editing. in fact both the Dil Leke and this song, i m hearing ur versions first and then hearing the real ones. i was hearing a song on FM radio 2 days back and wondering why it sounds so familiar when i realised it is Dil Leke … u r making songs phamous! 😀

i liked the echo and fade out in this song towards the end. now let me hear the real version and get back to urs before ripping it apart! 😀 😀 😀
have to admit: u r improving with each song… (smita wont be happy with reading compliments abt u) heheh

    • September 25, 2009 12:25 am

Yeah, you said you would be back to comment, and you didnt !! 😀 😀 😀

      LOL, phamous as in notoriously ? 😀 😀 😀

Oh, you complimented me too ??? Im choking ! 😀

      • September 25, 2009 7:49 am

          😀 😀 😀

  9. September 24, 2009 9:58 am

Now this makes it 2 in a row that I have to listen to! Thanks to a team of bumblers who are over paranoid abt security, my “sound” has been deactivated!!!!

I’d rather not call them jackasses for the fear of insulting jackasses! Anyhow, will catch ’em up!

    • September 25, 2009 12:27 am

They deactivated the sound in your system because of security ?? What the hell !!! How does it matter if you enter illegal sites with or without sound ?? 😀 😀 😀

Thanks Rakesh.Take your time! The songs are anyway available in Vmphony to listen ! 🙂

  10. September 24, 2009 10:16 am

I think the sound track of WIYR would have been much better if Sohail had not insisted on singing almost every song. He is not that great singer and even though he would have thought that his voice suits Harman, it doesn’t suit every song!

I love ‘Jao Na’ the most in this album.

    • September 25, 2009 12:30 am

Welcome to V-Lokam and thanks for dropping in your comment.

Thats exactly what I felt too !! I wouldve cried if this song was sung entirely by Sohail. Udit took this song to a different level altogether ! Bikhri Bikhri wouldve sounded magical with Hariharan and Jao Na wouldve sounded better with KK. But anyway, like you mentioned, his voice suits that sicko ! 😀 😀

Btw, did you listen to my version ?

Loved the song !!!!! The original…Ahem…Ahem…OK….dont hit me…I like the way you’ve sung the song !!! Really like it.

After troubling your neighbours in the middle of the night, thank God, that the song came out well. 🙂 😆 🙂

Just imagine your plight, if the singing was not good – they would have all met up, planned and murdered you, I guess !!!

Just a small suggestion – you sound better when you do solos…this is my feeling !!!! 🙂

    • September 24, 2009 9:58 pm

I also agree with this suggestion 😛

      sishya, do solos machu!!!!!!!!

    • September 25, 2009 12:34 am

LOL !!! Its not the issue of singing well. Imagine some guy shouting the same lines at the top of his voice at 2 or 3 in the morning !!! 😀 😀 Who wouldnt want to hit me ??

Yeah, I know about the solo part ! I just love trying editing and doing different stuffs, thats why ! The next will be a solo, for sure, that too a tamil song. 😀 😀

OG : Will do that. Can you please turn your back ?? Please… 😀 😀 😀

Me too happy 🙂 and BTW happy to get choked for your singing ya ya u r that good 😀 😉

besides, it leaves shruti free for u na… so enjoy!!! 😉

    • September 25, 2009 11:22 pm

Kashtam-e-da !!! Singing duets are actually easier than the solo ones ! I dont have to memorise the lyrics of the whole song na? The editing is tough, but even then I could finish it in a few hours less !!!

      @ Ashwathy : You are crazy ! 😀 😀 😀

  21. September 25, 2009 8:02 am

Lovely ! I always like the understated and softer songs better at times. Which is why I like to hear the full album. While everyone was going gaga (and rightly) over Rock On’s rock songs, I was captivated by Yeh tumhari meri baten. And in the flashy Sapney I loved Chanda Re while the world was yelling Awara Bhanwre.

    • September 25, 2009 11:20 pm

Ashutosh is always crazy ! never liked his movies, except for Lagaan !

  24. September 25, 2009 12:29 pm

that was wonderfully sung. haven’t heard the original but its not easy to sing in Udit’s range and also match Madhushree’s soulful voice. Great job 🙂

came here from Swaram’s blog. will go listen to your other tracks.
and the mixing is good too 🙂 quite a task that must have been.

p.s. Do you record these on your laptop/system? if you don’t mind me asking, what kinda software do you use? just for my info 😛

    Vimmmmuuuu

Not sure about this music album. Did not really enjoy that much (not sure if turns out to be like A R Rahman album, that first it does not feel appealing and then just get hooked on to it). I wonder why Gowariker did not go for A R Rahman like his previous movies. It would have been beautiful album. Talking about A R Rahman, in many of songs, I felt Sohail Sen stole the beats from A R Rahman’s work. When I will have time, I will list them out here. Though did not enjoy the entire album, absolutely loved ‘maanunga…maanunga”

    • September 25, 2009 11:55 pm

It is more like an ARR album, certain songs you would have to listen to a few more times to like it. ARR was busy with his other projects and Gowariker wanted to finish this as a quickie; atleast thats what was circulating. but what I dont get is, Im sure music directors would be dying to work with a director like him, why did he choose Sohail Sen ? Anyway, there might be a story behind that too.

Even I did feel that a couple of interludes were similar to ARRs work. But it cant be lifted, Im sure they were inspirations !

and on the contrary, manunga manunga and pyari pyari are the only songs that I didnt like from this album 😀 😀 😀

Btw, did you listen to this one, which I sang ? 🙂

      • September 26, 2009 12:20 am

ok, i believe you, it might be lik ARR album 🙂
And i understand the story of ARR not beign available. So behind picking sohail’s story, may be Gowariker wanted somebody giving music similar to ARR. 😉

I like you way of +ve thinking ‘inspirational’ ‘not lifted’ 🙂 🙂 🙂

unfortunately, for some reason ur audio links (this one and previous ones) did not work for me 😦 😥

        • September 26, 2009 12:43 am

LOL ! or maybe like Hurman, he might have offered to work for free too 😀 😀 😀

the audio links arent working for you?? 😦 thats bad 😦 😦 try changing your browser or deleting the cookies ! 😀

          • October 1, 2009 11:10 pm

            uh, huh! did not work.

ANyways you were right, songs started growing into me…expcet “Aaja Lehraate…”. I still do not have access to all songs though,

(Whats Your Raashee Pal Pal Dil Jisko Dhoonde,
            Aa Le chal,
            Jao Na,
            Aaja Lehraate,
            Maanunga Maanunga,
            Bikhri Bikhri,
            Chehre Jo Dekhe Hain)

So anyways, what’s up with Alka’s thick voice in ‘pyari…pyari….” i thought it was Lata singing….at 79 age…

Vimmuuu, I wanted to listen to the song and then comment. I waited for Poohi to sleep off – else I will surely get to hear -‘again, again again’ from her. Btw, she likes your singing – I always forget to tell you. For some reason, am not able to – so will come back later to comment.

    • September 26, 2009 3:31 am

LOL, she likes ???? Oh no !!! What do I do now?? Ok..get her something that she likes on behalf of me !! Will ya, please ??? 😀 😀 😀

  27. September 26, 2009 8:03 am

First time I heard you sing Chaiyan Chaiyan, in both the male and the female voices, I thought that as amazing though also made us all laugh at home here, now this such a change if you hadn’t told me I would have realised that the male voice is not that of the original singers!!

You are talented!! Not just being able to sing but also all the creative ideas!! Yeah obviously I am no expert, but that shows an untrained ear will like your songs 🙂

    • September 26, 2009 1:43 pm

Chaiyan Chaiyan was the first song you heard??? LOL. I am really sorry for that torture 😀 😀 😀 😀

      I just saw water on moon too !!! 😀 😀 😀 thanks for all the words !!! 😀 😀 😀

The recording of this song has come better than the previous one, and your high pitched voice was also good, quite flawless actually – this time! One suggestion: Instead of using brilliant voices like Shreya, Madhushree etc as a co-singer voice to your songs, use a more average voice (like one of the female blogger voice etc) and see the difference!!
