Song : Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna; Movie : The Legend of Bhagat Singh (Hindi 2002)

August 15, 2010

I really dont know how many of you wouldve heard this song. I was surprised when people, to whom I had sent this song after singing, didnt even know such a song existed. I would rate this song as one of A.R.Rahmans most beautiful compositions ever and its sad that sometimes such gems go unnoticed. The song was even picturised beautifully and the movie remains one of my most favourites too. I wouldn’t say its because of patriotism but there is something in the song that makes me cry each time I listen to it.The very same unknown reason made me cry while rendering it too; my voice breaks at a point which is very evident.

The songs originally sung by Sonu Nigam and Hariharan but Sonu dominates the song throughout. Towards the end, both of them sing together which takes the whole song to a different level. To create that same effect, I sang those portions twice and mixed it together. I also feel this is one of my best I had sung so far and I was so happy when my brother had the same opinion. Anyway, please listen to it and lemme know how it is :

Suggestions :

  • Please wait till the entire song streams.
  • Try using a headset/earphone for the best sound clarity

I sang this last year in Novemeber and initially wanted to dedicate this for all the 26/11 victims. But when I mentioned about my homage to a few friends, they replied that I was taking advantage of the situation to publicise my song and blog. That remark did hurt me a little; I didn’t want to start a debate with them and so decided to push it till our Independence Day. But seriously, what independence, huh? Now, I feel that our country was better during the British reign. Atleast, people had some sort of fear to go against the law back then. Apart from the never ending corruption tales in our country, we have honor killing, molesting infants, domestic violence, crazy god men and what not !

I agree every country has its own flaws, but in most of those countries, the judiciary is strong. People actually get punished for all their wrong doings. But here in our country, the law breakers roam happily around the country getting all the media attention; some even have the guts to become our minister!

We as normal tax paying citizens also have a lot to learn and practice. Everyday we find a new excuse to break traffic rules; everyday we find a new spot to spit, a new spot to throw garbage; everyday we find a reason to create a strike or a hartal and stay out of work; everyday there is a crazy procession on the roads hindering public life, either religious or political. Now tell me would any of us even dare to do the same in a foreign country ? No, because we are aware of the consequences; but here in India, we can do just about anything! Leave foreign countries, would we even spit this liberally in our own home? And its depressing that even the educated lot in our country are no different.

I donno, somehow whatevers reaching my ears lately or whatevers been happening in our country aren’t that pleasant enough for me to be proud of my country. How long should we wait for our country to show some maturity? Or will India ever grow up?

The V-mphony page on this blog is updated with the song.

    Happy Independence Day 😛

😆 at the iddea of waiting for the country to mature instead of it’s citizens 😆
Will get back with the feedback once I get to hear the song 😀

      • August 15, 2010 10:01 am

That was quick !!! You came in here 5 mins after I clicked the publish button ! 😀

LOL, you got me wrong there. I actually meant the citizens and not the country; we are responsible for the fame and shame of our country 😀

        • August 15, 2010 1:30 pm

😆 Oh ok, so you meant maturity the right way 😉

          Vim : 🙂

Just listened to the song and I couldn’t re-listening it twice.
So after finally listening to it three times here are my observations:

Vim : Thrice ???? 😯 ok, you deserve a treat. get me a visa and a flight ticket to Aus, you get your treat :wicked:

          1. You are wonderful with audio recordings and mixing them to achieve perfect sound effect (for I even Googled to hear the original).

Vim : Hats off CB. I have heard so many of them here saying I dont understand the language, and so dont listen to regional songs. You made the effort to listen to a totally alien language ! 🙂

          2. The most important point; you’ve got a gift and I am so glad to see you working on your talent and improving on it with each song I hear 😀 😀

          Vim : Awwwwwww…and there I go blushing ! 😀

Don’t worry about whatever happened this time in the Idol auditions, you are simply AWESOME 😛

          Vim : 🙂 🙂

Happy Independence Day to you Caged Ladies Hostel Warden 😛

You got it totally right when you said “I agree every country has its own flaws, but in most of those countries, the judiciary is strong” That’s a major difference which does bring a sense of freedom to every citizen.

Ohh I have heard the song and seen the movie too *sakshi pats herself*

Sigh you sang yet another song and uploaded it? Whoever said “evil begets evil?” How can I now put a nasty comment in return for all the evil comments you passed on to me? 😥

The song is soothingly beautiful and yup the crack in your voice does show an emotional Vimmu 🙄

    • August 15, 2010 11:28 am

Ahaaa…to get the evil yakshi on my side, all I have to do is upload some more songs of mine !! Hmmm… 😀 😀 😀

Thanks for listening ! (choke ! choke! )

      • August 15, 2010 10:28 pm

😡 😡 😡 How come you didn’t reply this time inside my own comment to every single para of mine? 😡 😡 😡 Oh ho…gaat yit! Just bcoz I tried to act like a miser and held on to a few extra nonsense, you decided to punish me??? 😥

        • August 16, 2010 9:18 am

LOL, self realisation is always good ! 😀 😀

Now, if you really want to see my comment in yours, write one of your usuals !! 😀 😀

    Happy Independence Day, Vimmuuu!

This song is one of my most favourites! Rehman is very good while creating patriotic songs. He said that his songs for patriotic films were the best but unfortunately, they were not popularised properly…everything needs some push, he said. He said that he would reduce composting for patriotic films.

    Will hear the song now!

    • August 15, 2010 11:31 am

Ya, I heard that comment too. It was just after the release of Bose – The forgotten hero; what songs in that too, huh ! Sigh !

      • August 15, 2010 8:11 pm

Beautiful rendition vimmuuu, all of us heard the song at home. Get goose bumps whenever I hear this song and I had them now too, thank you.

Do you watch Saregamapa in Zee TV? Some budding singers are very good. The judges are Vishal Shekar, my favourites!

        • August 15, 2010 8:11 pm

I liked the way you blended two voices, superb.

        • August 16, 2010 9:16 am

Why do you always make everybody listen and make them go through the torture ?? 😀 😀 😀 aaaaah, I get it ! You dont want to go through it all alone, na ? 😀 😀 😀

Jokes apart, thanks a lot Sandhya for listening.

I hardly watch TV; its just in the night after my work that I get control of the remote, you see ! 😀

          • August 16, 2010 10:11 am

All of us are your fans, Vimmuuu! You are quite good, all of us feel.

I have forwarded this to some of my nieces to hear and appreciate. They are familiar with your voice by now!

Vim : I am honored ! 😀 I shall update an Ilayaraja oldie next. I am tensed now since you all listen to the songs carefully ! 😀

Zee prog. repeats from 3.30 to 7 pm on Sunday and Chote Ustaad is on Sat.Sun. at 9 pm – colours! Worth watching.

Vim : Thanks. I can only watch Chote Ustaad in that case . I caught a few shows of Indian Idol though 😀

  4. August 15, 2010 11:00 am

I’m glad you tried to capture both the singers. Awesome voice as always – loved it. 🙂 I agree Rehman at his best!

    Vim : Thanks 🙂

Watte co-incidence again! You put up Legend of Bhagat Singh song in your blog too! “something in the song makes me cry each time I listen to it.” Exactly. 🙂

    Vim : I know !!! 😀

“Apart from the never ending corruption tales in our country, we have honor killing, molesting infants, domestic violence, crazy god men and what not !” Atleast we’re bickering amongst ourselves – like ugly feuds in a family. Ugly, but still family.

Vim : But wheres the peace of mind? and how long will be keep fighting among ourselves ?

The British were outsiders, man. How can you say things were better then? Uggh. We got a lot from them, yes. But life was better when they were around? Like hell.

Vim : True; we werent free to do what we wanted, we were more like puppets ! But look at us now? what happened after they left us? we took advanatge of that freedom and its all topsy-turvy now. As citizens, we have let our country down till now !

Btw, why did you bother when someone told you it would seem that you’re selling your voice if you put up this song? It would be like you rendering your voice not just in writing but also in music to empathise, support and heal the wounded. It would’ve been brilliant. Go with your guts, dude. Always.

Vim : ya, but it really hurt when someone questioned my intentions. If close friends felt that way, what would the online friends think, I wondered. But by the time I realised my mistake, it was too late !

    • August 15, 2010 11:56 am

Ayyo raamachandra! You edited my comment wonly. But I cannaught yedit it, see?

On second thoughts.. this is a GOOD idea. I should adopt this. Actually it’s great. This show’s who’s the king of the blog. heh.

      • August 16, 2010 9:11 am

        LOL !!! 😀 😀 😀 You werent aware of such a feature, kya ? 😀 😀 😀

nope. it shows how jobless I am ! 😀 😀

        Btw, Whos raamachandra ?? 😀

    • August 15, 2010 7:55 pm

If things went so called downhill after Britishers left…then we are to blame…that doesn’t imply that things were uphill or better with them around!!!

      • August 16, 2010 9:12 am

Thats exactly what I wrote up there too. We are to blame and we have to grow up as citizens ! I guess you failed to read after ‘what independence’ 😀 😀 😀

As always ur at your best, superb voice.

NRI’s who follows rules in foreign land don’t follow the samething here. The moment they step out of the airport they spit on the road which they don’t do in foreign land.

    Happy Independence day

  6. August 15, 2010 4:11 pm

Good song…and relevant time to upload it. (And might I add…to hell with people who think you are trying to cash in on publicity!! grrr! so there! 😛 )

Vim : ya, I know ! I shouldnt have listened to them ! Sigh !

I’ve told you before…and am telling you now…
One of the best things I like about your singing is the amount of feeling you muster up into each song. Your ‘Ay ajnabi’ song is a classic example of that. I loved the cheerful element in ‘paadum pothu naan thendral kaatru’ song that you sang for the reality show…it remains till date one of my favs from ur collection for some reason.

Vim : ok, enough ! dont you think you have said enough good things for a century ? 😀

You are getting better and better with each song. Pls keep it up.
Musters up the best bullying tone she can manage 😡
Are you actually attending those music classes or making excuses for not going???

    Vim : Gulp !

That’s some amount of real effort gone into recording this song…especially when u sing the last part twice and edit it. Loved it 🙂 And yea, you’d be surprised at the number of ppl who wouldnt know this song at all 😐

Vim : I know ! Most of ARR patriotic songs have gone unnoticed.

So…when is your duet with Laxmi going to be recorded??? 😀 😀 😀
More importantly…she must be a very understanding wife to tolerate all your unearthly recording sessions that may last 2-3 hours with all the corrections, editing everything

Vim : LOL !! She is too lazy ! I dont think that will ever happen ! 😀 😀

    • August 16, 2010 10:49 am

I KNEW it !!! You entire skipped that ‘tolerant wife’ bit!!!

Hmmm so you havent been attending classes at all have you? 😡 And u have the nerve to call your wife lazy! Look who’s talking!!! 👿

      • August 16, 2010 5:55 pm

You sing really well Vimmuu.. 🙂 Have heard few of your old songs too.. Love them too.. you should really take it up seriously!
Regarding the song, I had heard this old version of the same song, from a Bhagat Singh movie with no masala stuff like romance, so I love this version the most: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8yRJgdK40w. I dint like the new version by ARR 🙂

    • August 15, 2010 6:12 pm

Heard it again 🙂 I started liking the song (kind of) after listening to your version of it.. Too good 🙂

      • August 16, 2010 9:01 am

        Thanks a lot ! 🙂

Hmmm…the old version is good. Rafi can never go wrong with such songs, na? however, I feel the song sounds so much like Rafi ‘ O duniya ke rakhwale ‘ , right? wonder which came first !! Hmm…

LOL, thanks for listening to it again, please listen to the original song, you will fall in love with Sonus voice ! 😀

        • August 18, 2010 2:24 pm

I like Sonu a lot but still love the Rafi version 🙂

          • August 19, 2010 5:46 pm

Where is Barterminator???? here someone says they like Sonu and he is not appreciating it 😀 😀

Come on Bart.. else you will.. err… Sonu will loss his second fan 😀 😀

    I’m speechless!

    • August 16, 2010 8:59 am

      Speechless Sunday, huh?

      and ewwww….what was that for ?? 😀 😀

  9. August 15, 2010 7:51 pm

U mean to say that such crimes did not exist before Indpendence?? how do u know that?

Vim : Just like how you knew that such crimes existed before Independence ! 😀

Were there even laws regarding to them prior to Independence? social crimes have always existed..its just that now they are known due to the development of communication and media.

Vim : Our judiciary is still following a lot of rules and regulations which the British devised long ago. For example, if I hit a person with my bike and kill him, all I have to do is pay a fine of rs.5000 and go to the court for the first and second hearing. This law apparently was created by the British for the convenience of those British idiots who get into a similar situation. We havnt bothered to change the laws yet, but yes, the fine amount has increased ! 😀 and we should be thanking media and communication for bringing out the flaws in the system. Or else we would remain as ignorant and helpess citizens forever

I really fail to understand how people can even say “what independence”!!!
One really needs to know life pre and post independence to understand the meaning of freedom.
I find it hard to believe how people are unable to see a single good thing about India after 63 yrs? I do at least and one of them being the FREEDOM to write such negative things about one’s country.

Vim : well that doesnt make me less Indian or less patriotic. I am just a lill pissed off with whatevers happening in my country. I would speak to my near and dear ones if something unpleasant is happening inside my own house. I take it that way. Yes, I have the right to feel negative just like how you have the right to feel positive 😀

I too have written a poem for today but that doesn’t mean I do not see any good thing about India or do not value the meaning of the word being independent.

Vim : Good. now we all know about your poem ! 😀

If nothing good reaches your ears about your country then I guess the media is to blame which pimps bad news and stuff only.

Vim : Yeah right. That means Kasab was hung to death right after he was caught, SP Rathore hadnt raped anybody after all, and the whole CWG scam is a hoax ! 😀 😀

    • August 15, 2010 7:53 pm

*known due to the development of communication and media.

    Awesome, as always!

    Vim : poye! poye ! I am blushing now ! 😀

As for the independence day part, agree with all of what you said. Which is why I did not even bother to wish a “Happy Independence Day” along with today’s post. Because, am really not sure WHAT exactly it is that we a re celebrating. 😀 And am sure none of the people who celebrates it knows it either.

Vim : I know ! I dont wish that way too; its more like clapping after listening to the national anthem. Certain things are to be felt than to be celebrated, I believe ! 🙂

    • August 15, 2010 10:14 pm

really??? I know what I am celebrating when I say Happy independence day. I am celebrating the freedom to work in whatever job I want to..

Vim : Really? What exactly are the Thackerays doing ? 😛

I am celebrating the freedom to go to watch movies without being categorised into “dogs”..I am celebrating the right to spend on whatever I want…

I am celebrating the right to free speech by having a blog, tweeting etc,

Vim : Really? What exactly did Barkha Dutt did last time to a blogger ? Wasnt he made to apologise in public?

I am celebrating the right to go to the whatever college/school I want,

Vim : Really ? Why do they demand donations in college even you get in by merit ?

I am celebrating not being discriminated on the basis of my nativity in my own motherland by others who are from another nation,

Vim : Really ? Arent we discriminated in our own country by our own people on the basis of nativity, caste, creed, and even color? whats more painful than that ?

I am celebrating the freedom to use internet, to travel, to reside…I can go on and on…
but what shocks me is the sentence “And am sure none of the people who celebrate it know it either.”

Vim : Really? Do women have the freedom to walk all alone at midnight in a non-metro ? If I am not wrong, you yourself have blogged about instances of moral police? Do we even have the freedom of celebrating Valentines Day or even a friendship day in certain states here in our country ?

    Vim : LOL !!! Its surprising ! 😀

    • August 16, 2010 5:28 pm

I thot u said something diff. though when I said the same thing on one of Smitha’s posts – that stringent laws have to be in place!

Vim : Thanks for the link. I was breaking my head to check if I contradicted at all. That was a different context altogether. I did mention in a reply to your comment that our judiciary is screwed up. But the post of Smithas was on how aware our junta is on the road regulations and is it important for them to follow the law. We as citizens are responsible for our countrys current situation; and thats what I had written up there too 😀 😀

I have been advocating that our judiciary is flawed. Check this out where I mentioned the same. Found it during my search, thanks to you:

      http://wordsndreamz.wordpress.com/2009/06/18/rape-in-india-the-safest-crime/

The only point in this post that I don’t agree with in this post is this:

‘whatevers been happening in our country aren’t that pleasant enough for me to be proud of my country ‘

      – Y shud being proud of our country depend on such things which are the effects of things India’s people are doing? I would always be proud of India, may be not about these happenings! These r like dirty deposits which need to be washed away. The real India is still shining behind and will always be so!

Vim : To each his/her own I guess. I just hope that one day arrives where I could come here in the blog and apologise for not feeling proud of my motherland. I would fight with any outsider like a wounded tiger if they speak ill about my country. But that doesnt stop me from pointing out the flaws in my country. Yup, the real India is still shining behind! and its very content in still shining behind. but is it ever going to come forward and when? That is my only concern.

Hey I haven’t heard the song yet but will surely do it asap.
As for the celebration, am with you.
I feel that we were atleast united as indians when we were ruled by Britishers. Now, it pains to see fellow Indians looting and exploiting each other. Is this why we gained independence? Then we were surely better off earlier!!! Atleast we would have been truly patriotic.

    • August 16, 2010 6:11 pm

Oh, please do and lemme know how it is.

I know. We always need an outside force to feel patriotic and to be united. When an outsider was burning Mumbai a few years back, we were all one. But then again a few months later, there was a riot and there goes all the unity down the drains !

Have we gained independence so that we lose 19 year old young kids to Dengue? And all because the so called representatives in municipality prefer to count notes rather than do public service!!!
    Shame on us!

    Hi,

I heard the song & liked it very much. You sang it very well.
With due respect to the effort taken, I found the 2nd voice very much similar to Sonu Nigam. I don’t know whether you did it deliberately or you sound like him when you experiment with your voice. If done deliberately then I would say that we already have a Sonu to listen to…. would like to listen to Vimal… This is just a suggestion..pls don’t take it otherwise & of course you have every right to ignore it as well.

I would like to reiterate that you have a wonderful voice & that you should try different platform which will give you maximum exposure…

    All the best!!

    Ayishwarya

    • August 16, 2010 6:20 pm

      Thanks a lot Ayishwarya !

Actually, I sang in only one voice 🙂 I just sang the final portions once again, so its like an overlapping of the same voice. I donno, but people had commented that I sound like him in the Jashn – e- Bahara song too. To be honest, I never felt so and it certainly is not deliberate 😀 😀 😀

and please, I am never a person to take things otherwise. All your criticisms are only helping me to sing better. Infact, it was one of the bloggers comment that made me notice the mistake I had been doing with certain Hindi pronounciations which I had been taking care since then.

Thanks a lot for listening to them.

  17. August 16, 2010 6:23 pm

The verses of this song are very beautiful and touching .It is not just another patriotic song -it was written at the time of India’s Freedom Struggle as an ode to the freedom fighters–may be that’s the reason it touches the one who sings it and the one who listens to it.I must say you have done full justice to it. I am glad that you shared it .Thanks.

    I came here through Swathi’s blog(swaram).

    • August 16, 2010 6:58 pm

Welcome to V-Lokam and thanks for dropping by.

I guess you are right, its the verses that makes the difference. Never thought of it in that way.

Thanks for listening to it; it means a lot.

  18. August 16, 2010 10:13 pm

    hey

it is awesome … AWESOME … awesome

but i couldnt get the hariharan’s part ….

your voice was so damn good …. the song really touched me.
tho i knew this song, was never hearing it much coz i dont like sonu nigam ‘s voice much .. but this time i listened carefully

it is a master piece song.

thanks for this post, and your version.

    Take Care

Vim : Couldnt reply normally cuz of those two loonies ! 😀 😀 😀 Thanks for listening. There was no hariharan there. I sang in one voice, but at the end, I sang it twice to create the impact that was in the original 😀 and look what you did to brat with that I dont like Sonu bit !!! 😀 😀 😀

        • August 17, 2010 5:36 am

“aaaaaa” should be pronounced “aaaaa” just like in this song and not the Sonu way

Btw the dewaana ladka here is “Brat Can Dance Saala” 😆

          • August 17, 2010 8:06 pm

            heh heh …

first it was Karate Brat, then the naked Brat .. and finally terminated Brat 😀 😀 😀

Vim : He is dangerous, I am warning you ! 😀

btw, have u watched jaani dushman .. u should see sonu nigam’s acting in that .. baaaah !

Vim : Singers are supposed to sing and not get into acting. I agree, his acting was pathetic. But in that movie everybodys acting was. Btw, Yesudas acted in a few movies and it was equally horrible ! 😀 😀

what i dont like about his voice is that he sounds like he has a nasal congestion most of the time .. and in between a vocal congestion as well !

Vim : Nasal congestion and Sonu, thats the first time I am hearing that. cuz, Sonu is known for his versatility and open throat voice unlike a few others. Btw, you arent confused with some Sanu and Sonu , na ? 😀 😀 😀 😀

SONU NIGAM itself … agrees that he can sing and flow over swaras easily … but try closing your nose and sing .. the tone comes out in a similar fashion … kind of pleading whinning

Me thinks u were “Vayanokaling” him instead of hearing his song!
How else would u know abt his nasal & vocal congestion?

You know ,he was the only guy who tried something different in bollywood for a change and also one of the guys who put an end to all those crappy ‘kumar sanu’ songs of the 90’s
I agree his acting is PATHETIC! he even runs as if he has a diaper stuck in between his pants! But no one can question his singing abilities!
He is one of the GODS tht i worship 🙂

              • August 20, 2010 8:03 pm

‘vayanokaling’ … no chance .. i have taste, ya know 😉

how i felt he has nasal/vocal conjestion ? i have these things called ‘EARS’ ,… u see 🙂

i agree with u on the last part … he really tried diff styles, and put an end to those kumar sanu songs … man , they were so predictable …. but sonu nigam’s voice is predictable .. very much so .. just like kunal ganjiawala … i like sonu nigam’s voice a lot more when he speaks than sings …. agreed that he can sing effortlessly..

OMG OMG ! by nasal conjestion, i DID NOT mean the howling that Mr. Reshm**** does ….

A lot of us think on the same lines. I always insist that if we feel that something happening around is wrong, that we speak about it and make sure that our immediate circle of friends, family etc, if possible a larger audience, know about it. We have the ability to influence, at least, our immediate circle of people. Every bit of change will matter in the end.

Oh yeah, we have a looooooong way to go.

    • August 17, 2010 7:42 pm

Well said err…butterfly ! 😀 I am of the same opinion too; even if you find people ridiculing you for your thoughts, it doesnt matter, I believe one day, they will realise.

  20. August 17, 2010 12:16 am

kya baat hai 🙂 Loved it. neatly mixed and very well sung Vimzy boy! Its an extremely difficult composition to sing and you have done a superb job. the note you hit when you sing “aanewali aanewali naslon mein” is absolutely soulful. take a bow 🙂

and this is my favorite-st song from TLBS.. I go mad when ARR brings in tabla, I get goosebumps. the flute is another delightful bit. By second antara I am all teary eyed, and totally lose myself when the back vocals’ alaap starts.

My next favorite is ‘des mere’. Sing that also no 🙂

    • August 17, 2010 12:01 pm

Ya. This song just rings the right bells in our heart 🙂

    • August 17, 2010 7:51 pm

Thanks Shrutzy girl !! 😀 😀 Ohh, I am taking that bow; its coming from a person who is swimming in classical music ! 😀 😀

oh ya, the tabla bit, that gives goosebumps na ? ohhhh ARR…where are you when we need you the most ! 😀 I just hope he gets back to this style of compositions and leave his digital sounds for good !

yeah, des mere and my dream is to sing mera rang de from the same movie, that has three of them singing and I wanted to recreate that just like this 😀

    • August 18, 2010 2:23 pm

I like ‘des mere’ song from this movie a lot 🙂

Vimmuuu you sang that song REALLY WELL!! 🙂
I couldn’t tell the difference between you singing and sonu ji singing it. In fact I believe you sang it a lot better than him. I can truely say you sang it from the heart like a true indian. 🙂

    • August 17, 2010 7:57 pm

LOL, thanks Badz. but me better than sonu in this song; though thats flattering, its also unbelievable !!! 😀 😀

  23. August 17, 2010 12:13 pm

Thats a gud one…sung very well…btw, did u try to change ur voice little bit to suit both the singers – sonu and hari, so that when the mixing happens, it’ll be good ???

Happy Independence day to you too. 🙂

    • August 17, 2010 8:02 pm

Thanks a lot Uma ! I didnt change my voice, but since it was an emotional song, i sang it that way ! 😀 😀 😀 but in the mixing part, I did sing a lill differently, taking pauses, to make sure both the voices are heard separately. is that what you are referring to ?

and whats that” to you too “for ?? I never wished you that ! 😀 😀 😀 😀

  24. August 17, 2010 12:15 pm

  25. August 17, 2010 1:57 pm

Want to say so many things – but will keep it short as will be taking off anytime now.
#On BB so cannot hear the song- will hear it once I get back to off/home
    #Happy India Day
#India is a proud land with so much promise, its the perseverance and tenacity of its people the politicians take advanatage of to line their own motivations
#Till “we the people” dont become strong (in numbers and on the same page) -they the politicians will always outwit us-despite them being our elected representatives
#I know Hariharan (thru his wife)- he would be a super star if the criteria were only his vocal chords -am glad for the many things we must be before we are called rock stars
Ok time to shut off bb-do whatever makes you happy and do it well:)

    • August 17, 2010 9:19 pm

Oh, damn the BB !!! Please listen to the song and lemme know ! 😀 😀 😀

true; we are taken for a ride just because we are silent !

Btw, I honestly didnt understand the hariharan part. care to explain, pls ! 😀 😀

      • August 18, 2010 11:14 pm

#Loved your singing! Guess you need to pen an original now and set a tune to make it your signature:)-you will have arrived thus:)

#I guess we are taken for a ride also becos we are a minority ( educated, intelligent middle class dnt have a voice)- the illiterates and slum dwellers hijack the majority voting

#Hariharan- perhaps is a super rockstar singer but ultimately the test has gotta be how much of a rock star is one in life:) he aint one I know tat:)

        • August 19, 2010 7:29 pm

I do have a few original tunes in mind, about 20 of them. I am bad at poetry, so couldnt fit any words into it ! 😀 😀

Wow, never thought of it that way, you are right. We are the minorities in India and yes, its the minorities who are always taken advantage of ! 😀

          Oh….now, thats news ! 😀

          • August 21, 2010 12:36 am

Pls try to pen those originals – it would be a waste if you only sang already estbd songs:) You got a rockstar career ahead of you-dnt kick it in the face 🙂

No doubt its an amazing composition .We tend to forget about those great heroes and what they went through to give us freedom . But songs like this always keeps reminding us about them and will always tell us how great and unmatched their deeds were.

My personal fav is “Kar chale hum fida jaan-o-tan sathiyon” and from the movie Bhagat singh by Sonu and A R Rehman “Mera Rang de basanti chola”

    • August 17, 2010 9:23 pm

you are right. songs like these do remind us of what all we as a nation went through to get freedom. and it hurts us more when we see the present state.

Our founding fathers would not be happy with the way India is currently. We are not purely capitalist like Manmohans idelaogy nor the Nehruvian socialist. We are following exclusive growth and not inclusive growth. Agricultural security, national security , border security and even the way our democracy is functioning are appalling.

    • August 19, 2010 7:46 pm

Welcome to V-Lokam and thanks for dropping by.

exactly. donno why the present ‘crap’ of politicians dont realise this; are they not aware of history at all, I wonder !

True, we claim to have all kinds of security in our country, but how many of us actually that privilege !

  28. August 19, 2010 4:25 pm

Yesterday I typed a long comment only to lost by the power cut 😦 😦 Let me see whether I can type the same…

Vim : I think you did ! This is the longest comment from you in V-lokam ! 😀

I am really confused about this bro 😦 I don’t know whom to blame.. us or our rulers.. if rulers are wrong means then we only elected them 🙄 and we can elect the candidates who stand in election 🙄 Or else for better living I have to run out of this country.. but if I do that it will be disrespect as I learned everything here and without giving back anything if I leave means.. I am more worse than our current rulers..

Vim : Check the comment by Mee ! He/she is right. we are the minorities who are getting to vote. And the majority lot could be easily manipulated with a color tv, or sari or rice ! and its their vote that gets those goons into power ! Going away from the country doesnt serve any purpose at all. India will lose one more tax payer. But then, our tax is being utilised to feed people like Kasab, thats even more painful !

So will the change ever happen??? I wish if the political climate in our nation changes everything will change but who will do it???.. when it will happen??? 🙄 🙄

This year I haven’t sent a single Independence day wish to anybody 😯 I don’t know for which I have to be happy.. from British looting us chnaging to our own people looting us 😦 😦 Also these days I don’t like the concept of country which is a mere division of lands which again divides the people..

Vim : True. We fight with each other for land, for jobs, for language ! its disheartening to see that everyday we find a new reason to divide ourselves !

For spitting, its one irritating behavior.. I hate that but some of friends does that and even after I say to them that its not a right thing most of them never cares.. eeks… no point in getting all those degrees if they can’t maintain a basic public etiquette..

Vim : No use Kanagu, I tried it myself too. They are illiterates by choice!

As always I loved this song of yours.. its wonderful.. so much clarity 🙂 🙂 Wish I know Hindi to understand the emotions you put into this song… the mixing is also cool 🙂 🙂

Vim : Thanks Kanagu for listening ! 😀

    hey Vimmu,,,

I got my friend to hear most of the songs on VSymphony. She loves your voice too. She says you are super-ly talented.

but yeah, we both felt the Mugaru Male song was not upto the mark .. maybe coz u dont know (so cant understand) kannada , so … but the singing is so damn good !

    • August 20, 2010 6:15 pm

      Oh woww !!! You really do hate your friend, dont you ? 😀 😀 😀 😀 But seriously, thanks a lot. ! 😀 😀 😀

I guess so, I had no idea of what I singing when I recorded Mungaru Male; was not even sure if the lyrics were right. But check it out, the video version and the audio version of that song are totally different with the expressions; my reference was the former. Donno how and why thats happening; even with Kaise Mujhe (ghajini), the audio and video sound different. 😀

Thanks for mentioning this. It helps you see ! 😀

      • August 20, 2010 8:05 pm

I’m with you – I feel we were better off during British reign! Such rubbish we get to hear everyday in the news. Cannot believe it continues to happen relentlessly. I hate reading the newspaper these days. It just depresses me and makes me pessimistic about everything in general.

Song is as usual mindblowing Mr. V. I love the song too and more so, the feeling it invokes.

Nice song, I am listening to this after a long time – ARR does have a golden touch when it comes to songs of this genre. I guess your voice has matured – its really hard to sing this kind of a song. Nicely sung.

    Destination Infinity

I too disagree to the British era being golden. We paid a huge price for whatever little we learnt from them. Of course we ought to admire their administrative skills – India will surely become better in this department too. We have the skills, but not the will, yet.

The difference between them and us is, they went through too many wars and too long to become what they are. But in any scale, we are capable of learning faster – the west will realise this very soon. The crucial question is – “Will a lot of knowledge make any difference to living?”
